As a remedy to perpetual jaded bitterness and general malaise, Niki and Marc (semi-dating at the time) decide to amuse themselves by throwing a party where all the guests wear black, consume only black food and black drinks, and listen exclusively to The Smiths, The Cure, and Depeche Mode.

Marc leaves the country for a couple weeks, during which time Niki decides she can’t contain herself any longer and stabs Marc in the back by throwing the party without him.

About fifteen people attend the first Black Party, not imagining how many lost souls would one day attend the annual event and join our growing family of miserable, deranged, spurned lovers.
