This Time With Feeling
Sure you're cute
blonde highlights
bangs
that you cut yourself
your sly little smile
tight jeans low
over your hips.
Smart too —
you like to read
and think
about things
and laugh
(though you need scotch
to talk philosophy).
You have good taste in music
and movies
and too many other things going on
to spend much time
in front of the TV.
You like yourself
the sexiness of which
need not be explained.
But
every time I think
Why not?
all I hear is
Why bother?
Three years from now
there I'll be
alone
(again)
sitting in some bar
beside a ghost
that wears your midnight face,
watching another blank sheet
in a white wife-beater
and black bra
and wondering how her shoes
will look
next to my bed.
